I’m David Armstrong, pastor of Good News Bible church. If this is your first visit, I’d like to show you around. I’ve been the pastor of Good News Bible Church since we started in 1982 as a home Bible study in Cooper City Florida. We exist for one primary purpose, and that purpose is to communicate the Word of God as simply and clearly as possible. We have taught through the entire Bible several times and are working our way through again. As we study, we post the studies here on our website, so that anyone with a computer and internet access, can listen or watch.
If you are new to Bible study, I think you’ll do best starting in one of the basic books of the New Testament like John or Romans. As you build a basic foundation of understanding, you’ll feel more comfortable moving into the Epistles (Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians, or 1st and 2nd Peter), then on to the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke), and finally into the books of the Old Testament.
The key to understanding the Bible is knowing its central figure; our Lord Jesus Christ. He is described, quoted and alluded to throughout the Bible including hundreds of predictions about his birth, life and death in the Old Testament. Much of the Jewish system of ritual and sacrifice actually was intended to teach people about the promised Messiah.
The Bible says that Jesus Christ was the Eternal God (John 1:1) who became a man (John 1:14). He came to earth and lived a perfect life to prove his deity and establish a pattern for which we should all strive. The Bible is very clear that none of us are good enough to be acceptable to God (Romans 3:10, 23), therefore, it was necessary for Jesus to die as our substitute to pay the penalty for our sins (Isaiah 53:6). When Jesus rose from the dead, it showed that God the Father accepted His death as a satisfactory and complete payment for sin. That is the Good News, the historic Gospel of the Christian Faith. Any person can be saved, regardless of race, religion, or nationality, because when Jesus died, he took on himself the sins of the whole world. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.
